Sports in the Bay Area
Palo Alto, California offers exciting sporting events in the Bay Area. From the collegiate cardinal team at Stanford, to the Oakland A’s, the Bay area is no stranger to sports entertainment. Stanford does not officially have a mascot, but that doesn’t stop the school from participating in collegiate teams in soccer, football, baseball, softball, golf and more, for both women and men to enjoy. Football season is right around the corner and Stanford University is ready for the win, as they bleed Cardinal in Palo Alto.
Other Bay area teams include The Oakland Raiders, known as Raider Nation, a prominent NFL team that have accumulated some of the most die-hard fans in the NFL. The Oakland A’s, who originated in Philadelphia, have been Oakland's claim to MLB fame since 1968. They shined in the playoffs more than 20 times, and they were the winners of three consecutive World Series titles. The San Francisco Giants are one of the oldest baseball teams in the MLB, and have been exciting crowds since the 1880’s. They have won the most games of any team in the history of baseball. Candlestick Park is home to the San Francisco 49’ers, the first major league professional sports franchise based in San Francisco. The Niner’s have been inspiring fans since the1940’s and were the first NFL team to take home five Super Bowl trophies. The Golden State Warriors were established in the '40’s as well, but relocated to the Bay Area in the 1960’s. They have called Oracle Arena their home ever since.
