Also known as PACO, the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra is a premier youth group for serious musicians that are of high school age or younger. Chamber music is the name of the game, and there are 5 ensembles—Super Strings, which is the beginners and moving on to Preparatory, Debut Ensemble, Sinfonia, and Senior PACO. Each has about 25 participants. The concentration is on string instruments, and players learn about all aspects and categories of classical performances including ensembles, sectional playing, and quartets. Some of the more advanced students even form their own quartets, and PACO often plays in public. Musicians must audition to participate in PACO. Concerts are free and open to the public, and the season begins in October and runs through June. On October 27, 2012 at 8 p.m., Kati Kyme will conduct the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra with William Skeen on cello. The concert will be held at Cubberley Theatre, which is located at 4000 Middlefield Road in the Cubberley Community Center. For the complete schedule go to http://www.pacomusic.org/paco_wp/.
