Catch all the Latest Events at Stanford University
Founded
in 1891 as Leland Stanford Junior
University, Stanford has long been considered one of the most prestigious
colleges in the country. Now commonly known as Stanford University, the
institution not only educates a student body of more that 15,000, but is an
important part of the entire Palo Alto community. The tall tree (“palo alto”)
for which the town is named, still stands on campus, and is featured
prominently on the university shield.
There is a wide range of events going on in Palo
Alto every day, in and around the Stanford University campus. You can partake
in everything from the performing arts and lectures, to recreational activities
and collegiate sports.
There are dozens of art exhibits around campus,
displaying such things as caricatures, paintings, and sculpture. You can also
find musical performances ranging from rock to classical. Need to rejuvenate?
Bring your yoga mat to Yoga on Labyrinth and refresh both mind and body. If
your mind needs a different kind of workout, attend one of the university’s
lectures. They’re free and open to the public.
You can root on the Cardinal (that’s the nickname of
the university’s athletic teams), in any number of seasonal sports, including
men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, and volleyball—just to name a few.
Football season, of course, remains a staple of fall activities in Palo Alto.
