A Tour of Scotland, One Glass at a Time
Learn more about the golden brown liquid the Celts called the “water of life” from one of the world’s leading experts on the subject. Refined and dignified as well as wild and intense, it is truly one of the world’s most intriguing substances. It’s also one of its least understood. On August 15, Steve Beal will teach attendees of A Tour of Scotland: One Glass at a Time about the history, culture and creation of whiskey, as well as guiding them through a whiskey tasting experience of the single malts that Scotland is so famous for. Each glass is a reflection of the place where it was crafted, with every aspect of the process, from growing location to bottling, molding its taste. If you’ve never understood or appreciated whiskey, you certainly will after this event.
Beal is one of 15 people in the world to hold the title “master of whiskey,” and he’s a brand ambassador for the world’s largest spirits company, Diageo, as well as a judge of international spirit competitions. Absorb some of his passion through his multimedia, multi-sensory presentation, organized by the prestigious Commonwealth Club of California, the nation’s oldest and largest public affairs forum. Tickets are $25 for members of the Commonwealth Club, $32 for non members, and you can buy them online. Advance reservations are required, as space is limited. The lecture and tasting will take place at 6:15pm Thursday, August 15, at the Schultz Cultural Hall at the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto. Get there via Highway 101.
